Realizing I Need Social Media. The First (Failed) Attempt.

My business mentor explained the importance for me to use social media to pull in audience for my business (this one, folks).

Some background: I have Facebook for Marketplace only, and not even on my phone.

So I downloaded Instagram and made the mistake of searching "breastfeeding" to see what was out there.

I did not go on again for quite some time.

Flash forward a few months, after my PTSD from the images of that first search had worn off (somewhat).

I attempted to do an Instagram video. Some background: I am not used to working from home. In normal life I am a teacher. I leave my house, I'm inundated with social interactions all day, I come home. Now I bring all three kiddos to kindergarten, pre-school, and home daycare (tiwce a week they are all placed) and come home and sit at the kitchen island and open my computer and get nastalgic for waiting at my classroom door for thirty-one fifteen-year old knuckleheads instead.

Anyway. The Instagram video attempt.

The title: “What working from home ACTUALLY looks like.”  In my head I saw a clip of me at my computer. Then you'd see my eyes wander and focus on something outside the frame. Next clip: me washing dishes. Back to me at the computer, my eyes wandering again to something else. Next clip: Me vacuuming the kitchen. Back to me at the computer, eyes wander again. Last clip: Me a on a chair, squishing a bug on the ceiling. I thought, well, this will be simple, let me just get this right now before I even go into the basement to work. The only tricky part would be the bug. There are plenty of them around our house, though, so I could probably just find one and plant it there later.

I filmed myself at the computer. It came out great. Well, maybe I could not do that weird thing with my mouth in the next take. Do I do that in real life? Gotta kick that. Anyway. Then I went to the sink. I washed a dish. I even hummed a little tune. I pressed the little red button and then watched the video.

Let me just say the lighting at the sink was NOT the same as the lighting at the kitchen island.

Damn. I think this will take a little more time than I thought. Really missing my fifteen-year-olds right now.

Has anyone else felt overwhelmed by the whole social media thing when starting their business? Any tips??
